STRETCH MARKS
Stretch marks (striae) occur during rapid periods of growth, for example in puberty or pregnancy, or weight gain. Sudden changes in the skin cause collagen and elastin fibres to rupture and as they reform and the skin heals they produce stretch marks. They tend to start off looking like purple lines on the skin and with time become silvery and less visible.
